| Dexter: First Season- Michael C. Hall gives us one of the most complex and interesting characters to come on television in the last decade. His acting is superb on every level and the kind of role that never would have existed without method acting. After Hall, the next acting award from me goes to Julie Benz. As much as I liked her on Angel, this is on a different level. She has the hardest job because she has to understand all of the subtext and still be oblivious to it. Not an easy thing to do.
The dark comedy of the series works perfectly ever time.
The dialogue glimmers with subtext on every line.
The show is so good that it even manages to get one of the most ridiculous Silver Age comic book cliches ever to work plausibly (I won't give away what it is though).
With this series, Showtime went from a solid record of series to surpassing an HBO network that has struggled for a few years to find the next big thing. |
